National Canadian Film Day 150 #yyjevents @IMAXVictoria @RoyalBCMuseum

Celebrate Canadian cinema by attending the screening of films from the BC Archives and be part of a massive one-day, coast-to-coast-to-coast film festival. This program features four intriguing BC films which were preserved in BC Archives before they were transferred to analog video in the 1980s, and more recently digitized for better access.  The fifth film only ever existed as an edited original, which was fully restored by the BC Archives for National Film Week in 1986.
The films featured from the BC Archives are:

Joy of Life Festival weekend offers Juno winners and three musical thrills: Fiddle, song and jazz

VICTORIA, BC – A new combination of three unique musical experiences put together by the Victoria Conservatory of Music’s Chwyl Family School of Contemporary Music Head, Daniel Lapp offers a fresh sound sensation with a special Canadian twist on the first weekend in May.

“The challenge with celebrating Canada’s 150th and deciding to program ‘all Canadian’ content is that there is SO MUCH great Canadian music – many, many concerts worth of iconic music! Each of the 3 concerts will have a ‘Canadiana’ theme and we will traverse the country from East to West, North to South celebrating our culture in music and song,” says Daniel Lapp, the inspired brains behind the Joy of Life Festival. Remembering Vimy Ridge 100 Years Later

As part of the Vimy 100 commemorations happening across the country and around the world, Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Lighthouse, hosted an evening of military training exercises, period uniforms and live music.

The evening ended with a powerful commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the battle of Vimy Ridge.  6 C3 105 – mm Howitzers were stationed on the beach below, and fired off 100 rounds.  One for each year since the first shots were fired in 1917.

It was windy, the rain came and went, it was cold but that didn’t keep thousands from coming out to remember those that fought.
