There are going to be a few more tutus and smiles this year in British Columbia as the popular Victoria Goddess Run has expanded to include a lower mainland location, Port Coquitlam. With 3,000 participants expected this year in Victoria, the addition of Port Coquitlam will see at least another 1,000 women enjoying the 5K and 10K events. This announcement was made today at Frontrunners Westshore where sponsors, committee members, VIPs and media gathered to hear the 2017 Goddess Run plans.
Musical icon Elvin Bishop got his start as lead guitarist for the legendary Paul Butterfield Blues band, the group that gets the most credit for introducing white America to the blues. Five years later he went solo and formed the Elvin Bishop Group, going on to record 20 albums amidst a memorable six-decade career, garnering him Grammy nominations and induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Best known for the song “Fooled Around and Fell In Love,” a well-loved classic recently featured on the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack, this easy-going guitar slinger is a veritable legend. His most recent release, Big Fun Trio, is topping blues radio charts, but Bishop brings his rockin’ sextet to Victoria for his TD JazzFest debut.

This annual spring gala event is a truly unforgettable evening for parents and the kids they love (grandparents, aunts and uncles too!) that raises key funds to support the important work led by Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island.
Based on attendee feedback and the Foundation’s desire to be as inclusive as possible, the Kaleidoscope Ball (formerly Butterfly Ball) is now open to the whole family—meaning mothers and sons, grandmothers and grandsons and aunts and nephews are invited to attend alongside the fathers and daughters, grandfathers and granddaughters and uncles and nieces that already know what a special event this is for families. The past year saw Brody take home a JUNO Award for Country Album of the Year, along with 4 CCMA Awards for the top selling digital Canadian country single of all-time, “Bring Down the House”.
Beautiful Freakshow is Brody’s sixth album, and it’s one that takes risks and delves outside of the comfort zone of traditional country, with songs such as the progressive title track, featuring a rap vocal from Halifax native Shevy Price, and the mellow reggae vibe invoked from “Beautiful Girl”. And yet, the record manages to simultaneously stay true to what many fans have come to love and expect from Brody, with traditional tracks destined to be classics, such as, “Time”, “8th Day” and “Blueberry Sky”, which features iconic country legend, Vince Gill on the guitar.
