Junk, live in Victoria
Still No Water Tour 2024, with a stacked lineup of support… Thursday May 30th
Junk started off his career writing songs, recording himself and freestyle rapping at house parties in his early teens. At the age of 14 he was hosting weekly Hip-Hop nights at bars/clubs and winning every local rap competition he entered, which ultimately made him become the undisputed freestyle rap battle champion of Vancouver.
In 2011 JUNK won the MTV hosted “End Of The Weak” national freestyle competition in Toronto, Canada, which secured him a spot in Paris, France to represent Canada, where he took 3rd place in the world. Naturally this gave him his first taste of international appeal. In the same year he would co-create the Vancouver cult followed rap duo Northwest Division with rapper Hungry. Together they independently released 4 albums and 3 mixtapes in the span of 5 years. The albums they made and performed garnered a great deal of local and international attention and even got an article in Vice Magazine. “NWD” managed to make a song & video with Strange Music artist Rittz, tour with Tech N9ne & Krizz Kalico and open for some of raps biggest names: Method Man, Redman, Yelawolf, Machine Gun Kelly, Chef Raekwon, Action Bronson, Mobb Deep, Hopsin, Talib Kweli, Hilltop Hoods, Ghostface Killah and more.
The association with other well known rappers such as internet sensation Merkules and even touring with him internationally got JUNK into some uncharted territories. One of the standout shows was co headlining with iconic New York rap group Onyx a massive 10 thousand person capacity arena in Madrid ,Spain. Not not mention JUNK’s impressive track record of having played in over 40+ countries. He’s also managed to tour with Mayday of Strange Music, open for global megastar Jack Harlow, open for grammy nominated Freddie Gibbs and start his own independent Household Records label with his partner Hungry.
