Howitzer to mark 100th Anniv. of the Battle of Vimy Ridge #yyj #vimy100

To commemorate the Battle of Vimy Ridge four Howitzers will fire a 100-round salute from the waterfront near Fort Rodd Hill beginning at 8:30 p.m. on April 8, 2017.

The four C3 105-mm Howitzers will fire blank ammunition every 15 seconds until the salute is completed, a process that should take just over six minutes. The guns have been timed to mark the beginning of the artillery barrage that started the First World War battle 100 years ago at 5:30 a.m. Central European Time (CET) on April 9, 1917 near Vimy, France.

The public is reminded that no unauthorized person may enter the Howitzer’s surrounding area.
