Art Gallery of Greater VictoriaVictoria, BC – August brings innovative programs to the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria offering opportunities to experience art in a variety of ways; including the AGGV’s first ever art event in Port Renfrew and a workshop for young writers.

The fourth installment of OFFSITE | INSIGHT, a Gallery series offering a range of offsite programs connecting with local communities, environments, and artists from the region,  launches on Aug. 12 at Port Renfrew Elementary School.  SupernaturalArt, Technology and the Forest artist Leila Sujir, will be screening her work, Forest Breath: A Portrait In Progress, a 3D stereoscopic video installation filmed with an IMAX rig with two Sony F65 8k cameras in the south Walbran. The free screening, which begins at 2:00 p.m., is an opportunity to experience an innovative work in development, to meet the artist, and to contribute insights towards a broader understanding of these unique forests.

Tuesday, Aug.7 is the admission by donation day this month, Art Gallery of Greater Victoria Chief Curator, Michelle Jacques, will offer at tour of Picturing The Giants: The Changing Landscapes of Emily Carr at 2 p.m.

Thursday evenings from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Aug. 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria is also open to all with admission by donation evenings, with Slegg Building Materials matching every donation made on Thursday evenings until the end of the month.

Young writers are invited to attend a new learning camp, Using Art as a Stimulus for Writing: Young Writers Summer Workshop for high school aged youth.  Offered in collaboration with the University of Victoria Writing Department with instructors Annabel Howard, University of Victoria Writing Instructor, and Sherry Willing, Education Coordinator at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria.

The camp takes place at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria from Aug 14 to 169:30 a.m. to Noon, and focuses on thinking, talking, and writing about how art can reflect and shape our world.

The cost is $25.00.

On Saturday Aug. 25, the 12th Annual Integrate Arts Festival Art Crawl includes free admission to the Gallery. It’s a great opportunity to see the AGGV’s current exhibitions and engage with artists from the Art Rental and Sales program who will be on site providing demonstrations of their work. For more information visit integratearts.ca .

The Massey Sales Gallery’s Summer Small Works Show & Sale runs until August 30, with a variety of pieces from local artists still available for purchase.
