The 25th annual Great Canadian Beer Festival continues today. It may be a little damp, but this will definitely keep your mind off the clouds and on the suds 66 breweries and 2 cideries will have a booths featuring over 250 beers and ciders. Also, new this year is The Drake Eatery Cask Tent which has an additional 8 breweries serving up unique cask beer. Returning will be our local food vendors, live entertainment and more!
Award winning festival – The Great Canadian Beer Festival won Best BC Craft Beer Event in BeerMeBC’s People’s Choice Awards for 2015 and 2016.
Breweries new to the festival this year include A-Frame Brewing, Andina Brewing, Backroads Brewing, Hathi Brewing, KPU Brewing, Luppolo Brewing, Mt. Arrowsmith Brewing, Riot Brewing, Sooke Oceanside Brewery, Strathcona Beer Co, Twin Sails Brewing, Two Wolves Brewing, Whitetooth Brewing, and White Sails Brewing.
There are five breweries from outside B.C.: Beau’s Brewing from Ontario; Brasserie Dunham, Dieu de Ciel, Le Trou Du Diable and Unibroue from Quebec.
New this year – The Drake Eatery Cask Tent featuring special casks from Deep Cove Brewers and Distillers, The Parkside Brewery, Longwood Brewing, Red Arrow Brewing, Parallel 49 Brewing, Cannery Brewing and Foamer’s Folly Brewing.
25 years of attendance at GCBF – Swans Brewery, Spinnakers Brewpub, Vancouver Island Brewing, Granville Island Brewing and Merridale Ciderworks have been with us since year one!
EVENT: Craft beer tasting event held at Royal Athletic Park in Victoria BC annually on the weekend after Labour Day. This year’s event is Friday, September 8, 4-9pm (*new time) and Saturday, September 9, 12-5 pm.
TOKENS: One token per tasting. Tokens cost $1.50 each for a 4oz taster. Available for purchase on-site, cash only.
BEER: Presenting 66 breweries and two cideries, pouring approximately 250 beer and 10 ciders, as well as casks from 8 breweries in The Drake Eatery Cask Tent.
FOOD: Local food vendors this year are: Ali Baba Pizza, Hungry Rooster, Taco Justice, Dead Beetz, Greek on the Street, and Mama Rosie’s.
ENTERTAINMENT: Buskers of all sorts. Buchan Buchan, the marching gypsy band. More to be announced soon!
Wifi will be available again this year at the event.
SOCIETY: The GCBF is a not-for-profit society created for the purpose of introducing consumers to new brews and to raising awareness of craft brewing in the local community and beyond. In its 25th year, the GCBF is the longest running, craft-only festival in Canada.
HISTORY: The first GCBF was held in November 1993 in the Victoria Conference Centre with 2000 attendees. The festival continued to grow, expanded to two days, and now takes place outdoors in Royal Athletic Park, where 9,000 people attend over the event.
VOLUNTEERS: The festival counts on over 350 volunteers to pour beer, sell tokens, set up, clean up and more. Sign ups are still open! Not all positions require Serving it Right. More information.
