Joy of Life Festival weekend offers Juno winners and three musical thrills: Fiddle, song and jazz
VICTORIA, BC – A new combination of three unique musical experiences put together by the Victoria Conservatory of Music’s Chwyl Family School of Contemporary Music Head, Daniel Lapp offers a fresh sound sensation with a special Canadian twist on the first weekend in May.
“The challenge with celebrating Canada’s 150th and deciding to program ‘all Canadian’ content is that there is SO MUCH great Canadian music – many, many concerts worth of iconic music! Each of the 3 concerts will have a ‘Canadiana’ theme and we will traverse the country from East to West, North to South celebrating our culture in music and song,” says Daniel Lapp, the inspired brains behind the Joy of Life Festival.
Joy of Fiddle is the first concert, featuring Daniel Lapp, with special guests Trent Freeman, the BC Fiddle Orchestra & Folkestra. Trent Freeman, who won a Juno Award playing with Fretless, is an innovative violin player, combining captivating melodies, deep groove, and in-depth harmony. His personal writing style further sets him apart and everything combines for a unique musical experience.
Joy of Song is the second concert, featuring Bill Henderson of Chilliwack, Daniel Lapp’s Houseband, the Joy of Life Choir and the BC Fiddle Orchestra. Bill Henderson is best known for his work with the band Chilliwack (with whom he also won a Juno Award), one of Canada’s top recording acts in the 1970s and ’80s. As lead singer, guitarist, producer and songwriter, Bill played a major role in the success of the 12 Chilliwack albums released between 1969 and 1985.
Joy of Jazz is the third concert and final concert in the Joy of Life festival. It features special guest Marc Atkinson, along with Daniel Lapp & Friends. Guitar player Marc Atkinson is really a multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger, producer and one of Canada’s finest JUNO-nominated, Western Canadian award-winning musicians. He is the leader and composer of the internationally renowned Marc Atkinson Trio (their music is described as punchy, driving and rhythmically inventive) and co-founder, composer and performer in the acclaimed folk/roots group, The Bills.
